William has over 20 years’ experience in the regulated gaming industry. He currently works as an advisor and consultant in the international gaming industry with a focus on lottery and online gaming. In the role as advisor and consultant, William provides strategic advice, mentoring and contacts to both operators and technical providers in both the lottery and the broad gaming market. Consultancy projects in the lottery vertical include, inter alia, the outsourcing of the Turkish National Lottery, the strategic review of the international lottery market for a major international lottery technology provider and the launch of numerous lotteries in Africa.
In addition, William is also a Non-Executive Director of Ithuba, the exclusive operator of the South African National Lottery. Ithuba is the largest privately-owned lottery operator in Africa generating over $600m in Revenue through 9,000 retailers, over 200,000 distribution points and mobile devices.
William left GTECH (now called IGT) in 2013 after over 15 years at the company. His last role was as Vice President and Commercial Director at GTECH G2 responsible for internet gambling for both the WLA and commercial markets.
Prior to taking on this role, William was Vice President of Corporate Development. In this role, he was involved in the development of the Company’s Internet Gaming Strategy and the identification and execution of acquisitions. In this role, William was directly involved in the acquisition of Finsoft, Boss Media and St Minver.
At GTECH, William also worked on a significant number of major lottery bids (well over 100), partnerships and operations around the world. These opportunities included the Turkish National Lottery, Taiwan Sports Lottery, China Sports Lottery, South Africa, Morocco, FDJ (France), BCLC, ALC to mention a few. The opportunities ranged from responding to RFPs (BCLC), joint ventures (South Africa) and privatization (Turkey).
William was born, raised and educated in South Africa and currently lives in London. He has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He is also a member of the Chartered Accountants of South Africa qualifying whilst working for Arthur Andersen in Johannesburg and London. William is also a UK trustee of an Africa focused charity, Education Africa.
